Vetoprime UP394

High performance, solvent-free, two-component polyurethane-based primer.

Vetoprime UP394 is a high performance, solvent-free, two-component polyurethane primer designed for use on both porous and non-porous substrates, providing excellent penetration, sealing, and bonding properties prior to the application of DecoFloor PU Granite flooring system. The primer improves adhesion between the substrate and subsequent coating layers while reducing surface porosity, air release, and pinhole formation. Vetoprime UP394 is suitable for a wide range of concrete and cementitious substrates and is developed to deliver low VOC emissions, reliable bonding performance, and easy application in industrial and commercial flooring environments.

Uses

  • Ideal for priming concrete and cement screeds exposed to light to medium mechanical stress, such as in storage facilities, assembly areas, maintenance workshops, garages, and loading docks.
  • Serves as an excellent seal coat for broadcast systems, including multi-level and underground car parks, maintenance hangars, and moisture-prone areas like those in the food and beverage industries.
  • Sealing porous substrates to reduce air release and pinhole formation.
  • Industrial, commercial, and institutional flooring applications.
  • Industrial kitchens, and processing areas subject to thermal variations.

Advantages

  • Solvent-free, low VOC.
  • Excellent adhesion to concrete and cementitious substrates.
  • Deep substrate penetration and sealing action.
  • Excellent mechanical and chemical resistance.
  • Reduces pinholes and air release in subsequent layers.
  • Easy to apply with roller or squeegee.
  • Suitable for absorbent and dense substrates.
  • Seals surface to prevent dusting and particle release.
  • Suitable for areas exposed to temperature variations.
  • Fast curing and short overcoating intervals.
  • Improves intercoat adhesion of PU flooring systems.

Usage Instructions

The substrate must be clean, dry, and free from contaminants such as dirt, oil, grease, existing coatings, and surface treatments. Remove all dust, loose, and friable materials thoroughly before application, preferably by vacuum. Suitable preparation methods include light grit blasting, surface grinding, or similar techniques to achieve a sound, rough surface profile.

Any spalled, fractured or defected asphalt and concrete surface must be repaired to allow Vetoprime UP394 to bond effectively to sound, monolithic surfaces. Use an epoxy mortar from the Vetorep ER range to repair all necessary areas before applying.

New concrete surfaces must have a minimum compressive strength of 25 N/mm2 and a pull-off strength of at least 1.5 N/mm2. Concrete must be at least 28 days old and have a moisture content of ≤5-6% before application.

Vetoprime UP394 is supplied as a two-component system. Pre-mix Part A (resin) using a low-speed mechanical mixer (300–400 rpm) for approximately 30 seconds. Add the entire contents of Part B (hardener) into Part A. Mix continuously for 2–3 minutes until a uniform, streak-free consistency is achieved. Transfer the mixed material into a clean container and re-mix briefly to ensure complete dispersion. Avoid excessive mixing, as this may introduce air into the material and affect the final finish.

Vetoprime UP394 should be applied directly onto the prepared substrate using a roller, brush, or squeegee. Apply the material in a thin, uniform coat (200 microns thickness) to ensure proper penetration and sealing of the substrate. Avoid excessive build-up, ponding, or uneven distribution, especially in low areas.

On highly porous substrates, a second coat may be required to achieve a continuous, pore-free surface. Allow the primer to reach a tack-free condition before applying subsequent layers of the DecoFloor PU Granite system. Under normal conditions at 23°C, the recommended overcoating interval is 90 minutes – 2 hours, depending on temperature and humidity. Application should be carried out in controlled conditions, avoiding exposure to moisture, condensation, dust, or direct sunlight during curing.

The primer will typically become tack-free within 90 minutes – 2 hours at 23°C, can receive light foot traffic after approximately 24 hours, and reaches full mechanical and chemical resistance after 7 days. Curing times will be extended at lower temperatures and shortened at higher temperatures.

All tools should be cleaned with Vetonit Solvent XX400 immediately after use. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.
