Vetotop DecoFloor Membrane
High performance, two-component, 100% solids, flexible, crack suppressing membrane
Vetotop DecoFloor Membrane is a high performance, two-component, 100% solids, flexible membrane specifically formulated to bridge hairline and reflective cracks in concrete prior to the installation of resin flooring systems such as epoxy terrazzo. Its exceptional elongation, adhesion, and crack-bridging ability make it ideal for use beneath decorative and industrial floor toppings in both commercial and institutional environments. Once cured, the membrane forms a smooth film that provides a continuous barrier over the substrate, helping absorb minor structural movement while preventing crack reflection through the finish layer. Vetotop DecoFloor Membrane also offers moisture resistance and can function as a horizontal waterproofing layer when applied at full coverage. Vetotop DecoFloor Membrane is applied ready to receive subsequent layers of the DecoFloor Terrazzo System.

Uses
- Applied over interior concrete substrates prior to terrazzo or other resin-based flooring systems.
- Designed to suppress cracking caused by substrate movement, shrinkage, or settlement.
- Suitable for both strip application over isolated cracks or full-field coverage over cracked or shrinkage-prone slabs.
- Functions as a horizontal waterproofing layer in environments requiring dual-purpose membranes.
- Recommended in airports, malls, hospitals, museums, universities, and back-of-house areas subjected to slab movement.
- Can be used under screeds where moisture and reflective cracking are a concern.
Advantages
- Absorbs horizontal substrate movement.
- Suppresses reflective and hairline cracking.
- Provides excellent shock absorption.
- Reduces impact noise and sound transmission caused by mechanical vibrations.
- Functions as a waterproofing membrane.
- Enhances adhesion of subsequent layers.
- Compatible with epoxy terrazzo and resin flooring systems.
- Seamless, smooth finish for screed application.
- Low VOC content.
- Does not require priming in many cases.
Usage Instructions
The surface must be free of dust, laitance, grease, oils, curing compounds, surface contaminants, or any weak or loose material that may affect adhesion.
Concrete substrates must be sound, fully cured (minimum 28 days), and possess adequate compressive and tensile strength. Mechanical surface preparation such as shot blasting, diamond grinding, or captive blasting is recommended to achieve a clean, open-textured surface with a minimum profile of ICRI CSP 3–5. All laitance and non-structural cementitious layers must be removed. The substrate must be dry with a maximum relative humidity not exceeding 80%. Ensure all cracks, voids, and surface defects are repaired using an appropriate epoxy mortar from the Vetorep ER product range prior to priming and subsequently, membrane application. Vacuum clean thoroughly to remove all dust and debris before installation.
Priming is required for highly porous concrete substrates and areas with routed cracks. The surface should be primed using Vetoprime EP691 and allowed to cure in accordance with the recommended drying time prior to the application of Vetotop DecoFloor Membrane. Depending on substrate porosity, a second coat may be applied to ensure complete absorption and maximize adhesion. On dense, well-prepared concrete substrates, priming may be omitted if confirmed by a successful site adhesion test.
Vetotop DecoFloor Membrane is supplied as a twocomponent system, ready for on-site mixing. Before starting, stir Part A (base) thoroughly using a low-speed mechanical stirrer (300–400 RPM) to ensure uniform consistency. Add the entire contents of Part B (hardener) to Part A and continue mixing for approximately 2 minutes until a homogeneous blend is achieved. Scrape the sides and bottom of the container during mixing to ensure full incorporation. For optimal pot life and performance, transfer the mixed material to a clean container (“re-pot”) and briefly mix again. Avoid over-mixing to prevent air entrapment. Do not aerate. Do not dilute.
Pour the mixed Vetotop DecoFloor Membrane directly onto the surface and spread evenly using a notched trowel, flat squeegee, or suitable steel applicator depending on the application design. The membrane should be applied uniformly to achieve a wet film thickness (WFT) of approximately 1.0 mm. Care must be taken to ensure complete coverage, particularly around routed cracks, edges, and penetrations. For crack-isolation strip applications, the membrane should extend a minimum of 150 mm on either side of the treated crack. In full-field installations, overlapping passes should be maintained to ensure continuity and eliminate voids or gaps. Ensure ambient and substrate temperatures remain between 10°C and 35°C throughout application and curing. Do not apply the product below the minimum temperature threshold or when there is a risk of condensation or rising moisture.
Vetotop DecoFloor Membrane should be left to cure under controlled conditions immediately after application. The curing time is temperature dependent and will vary based on site conditions. At 25°C, the membrane typically achieves initial cure within 12 to 24 hours, after which subsequent layers such as Vetotop DecoFloor Screed and Vetotop DecoFloor Grout layer may be installed. Full mechanical and chemical cure is generally achieved after 5 to 7 days. During this period, the surface must be protected from water, dust, chemical exposure, mechanical stress, or premature foot traffic.
Note: Forced drying methods such as direct heat or air blowers must be avoided, as they may lead to surface skinning or incomplete cure.
All tools should be cleaned with Vetonit Solvent XX400 immediately after use. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.
