Vetoproof EC769

Coal Tar Epoxy Slurry.

Vetoproof EC769 is a three-component, solvent-free slurry formulated from high-performance coal tar modified epoxy resins, amine curing agents, and chemically inert graded silica fillers. When mixed, the components form a homogeneous, fluid slurry designed to provide excellent mechanical strength and superior waterproofing.

During application, carefully selected aggregates are broadcast onto the fresh slurry to create a robust, lightweight, and skid-resistant surface. The system cures to form a flexible, chemically resistant, and hard-wearing anti-skid dressing suitable for a wide range of substrates including concrete, steel, asphalt, and timber

Uses

  • Delivers a strong, waterproof, and skid-resistant finish on various substrates such as concrete, steel, asphalt, and timber.
  • Well-suited for pedestrian and vehicular bridges, RO/RO linkspans, and helicopter decks.
  • Recommended for marine decks, parking structures, loading docks, and service platforms where protection from water ingress and abrasion is critical.
  • Suitable for industrial walkways, wet work areas, and cargo handling zones where long-lasting waterproof and skid-resistant performance is required.

Advantages

  • Hard wearing and mechanically robust.
  • Lightweight and durable.
  • Strong adhesion to steel and concrete substrates.
  • High flexibility.
  • Superior skid-resistance even on wet surfaces.
  • Resistant to chemicals, fuel, and water.
  • Prevents aquaplaning and enhances safety.
  • Non-flammable; zero flame spread.
  • Fully waterproof, protecting underlying substrates from moisture ingress.
  • Long service life.
  • Low VOC.

Usage Instructions

All substrates must be clean, sound, and free from dust, oil, grease, laitance, loose particles, or any other contaminants that may affect adhesion.

Steel surfaces should be blast-cleaned to a minimum Sa2½ finish with an angular profile of at least 75 microns, and the slurry must be applied immediately after blasting to prevent flash rusting.

Concrete substrates should be mechanically prepared by scarifying or blasting, ensuring a dry, laitance-free surface. Priming with an appropriate epoxy primer from the Vetoprime product range is recommended to achieve optimum bond.

Asphalt surfaces must be at least three months old, clean, and grit-blasted to remove any weakly bonded material. Primer is not required.

Timber substrates should be clean, dry, and free of coatings or surface defects to allow direct application.

Aluminum must be sweep-blasted and degreased using Vetonit Solvent XX400 to create a sound mechanical key prior to application. Proper substrate preparation is critical to ensure maximum adhesion, durability, and performance of Vetoproof EC769.

Concrete substrates should be primed with Vetoprime EP490, a solvent-based epoxy primer, to ensure optimum adhesion and sealing of the surface. The primer must be applied evenly using a roller or brush, taking care to avoid puddling and ensuring complete coverage. On porous or highly absorbent substrates, a second coat may be required to achieve full saturation and a uniform surface film. Vetoproof EC769 should be applied onto the primed substrate as soon as the primer becomes tack-free, typically within the specified overcoating interval. Failure to apply the slurry within this window may require light re-preparation of the surface and re-application of primer.

All components of Vetoproof EC769 should be conditioned to 20–25 °C prior to use. The resin (Component A) must be stirred to ensure uniformity, after which the hardener (Component B) is added and the two are blended thoroughly using a forced-action mixer or a slow-speed drill fitted with a helical paddle. Mixing should continue for approximately 2–3 minutes until a consistent blend is achieved.

While maintaining continuous mixing, the graded mineral filler (Component C) is introduced gradually and blended for a further 3–4 minutes until a smooth, homogeneous slurry is obtained. Care must be taken to scrape the sides and bottom of the container at intervals to ensure complete incorporation of all materials. The mixture should then be transferred to a clean container and briefly re-mixed to eliminate any unmixed residue. The resulting slurry must be used immediately within its specified pot life, which is dependent on ambient temperature, with higher temperatures reducing working time. The addition of solvents, thinners, water, or extra aggregate is strictly prohibited, and any material that has begun to set should be discarded.

Vetoproof EC769 should be poured directly onto the prepared substrate and spread evenly using a steel trowel or squeegee, working systematically in lanes of 2–3 meters and masking the edges with tape to achieve clean, defined boundaries. Particular care must be taken when joining fresh slurry to previously applied areas to ensure continuity and a uniform finish. A wet film thickness gauge is recommended to verify that the required layer thickness is achieved and that material consumption is controlled.

Immediately after spreading, the selected surface dressing aggregate from the Vetograin Range must be broadcast to full saturation while the slurry remains wet. Aggregates should be allowed to fall naturally and should never be thrown across the surface, as this may result in uneven ridges. The slurry should be blinded until no visible resin remains at the surface. Masking tape must be removed carefully before the system begins to cure.

The freshly applied system should be protected from moisture, dust, and traffic during the curing period. Under standard conditions of 20°C, the coating must be left undisturbed for a minimum of 24 hours before being opened to light traffic, 48 hours before being opened to vehicular traffic, and 7 days to achieve full chemical resistance. Lower ambient temperatures will extend the curing time.

All tools should be cleaned with Vetonit Solvent XX400 immediately after use. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.
