Vetotherm PU SF is a polyurethane spray foam system for the production of rigid, closed-cell foam, suitable for insulation of roofs, walls, and floors over metal, concrete, and plywood. The system is CFC-free and has a zero Ozone Depletion Potential (Zero ODP). Vetotherm PU SF is composed of two components: Polyol Component (A), which is a mixture of polyol, catalyst, blowing agent, and other additives, and Isocyanate Component (B), which is a mixture of diphenylmethane-diisocyanate, its isomers, and halogens.

Concrete surface must be sound, free from dust, loose particles, and any deleterious matter. If the concrete surface is defective or has laitance, it must be cut back to a sound base. Excess laitance deposits are best removed by light mechanical scrabbling, grinding or grit/captive blasting followed by vacuum cleaning to remove dust debris. 

The concrete surface should be allowed to cure for at least 28 days before applying the spray polyurethane foam and must be dry on the surface, with a moisture content less than 19%. An adhesion test should be conducted if necessary. 

Joint openings above 6mm must be grouted prior to application of Vetotherm PU SF. Existing joints must be checked and repaired if necessary. 

Remove or refasten all loose base flashing, counter flashing and gravel stops as required. Sprayed polyurethane foam is not recommended for lightweight or insulating concretes unless tests have been made to determine that adequate adhesion can be obtained or unless an overlay is installed. 

Electrical and mechanical conduits should be transferred or raised above the finished roof surface. Lightning rods must be covered prior to foaming. Lightning rod cables shall not be embedded in the polyurethane foam and should be removed prior to foaming.

  • Must be applied using plural-component spray equipment. The mixture reacts on the surface, adhering to it instantaneously, and expanding into a rigid foam.
  • Thickness should be between 10-20mm. In order to maintain the designed density and dimensional stability, it is not recommended to apply thicker layers.
  • Higher than recommended layer thicknesses, cause a decrease in density and worse dimensional stability of the foam. Very thin layers will increase the density and decrease product yield.
  • When applying a total thickness of (>6 cm), it is important to keep a time gap of 10 min between the layers. Longer time gap is necessary for thicknesses above 10 cm.
  • The distance from the spray gun to the substrate is recommended to be approx. 80 cm.

Application of Vetotherm PU SF

Substrate shall have sufficient slope to eliminate excessive ponding water. If the substrate does not have sufficient slope, then the ponding water must be eliminated by building in slope as well as the proper placement of drains, or a combination thereof. Application shall not commence when temperature and humidity are below the specified mentioned in the product data sheet for ambient air and substrate. 

Vethotherm PU SF must be applied uniformly over the entire surface at minimum thickness of 25mm. The spray polyurethane foam shall be uniformly terminated at a minimum of 100mm above the roofline at all penetrations (except drains, parapet walls, or building junctions). Foamed in place cants shall be smooth and uniform to allow positive drainage. For skylights, spray polyurethane foam must be terminated below existing weep holes. Weep holes must not be covered by foam or coating.

The storage life of this product referred to in this data sheet is provisionally 3 months from the time of production date when stored at 25°C.
