Vetoproof BM750

Single-component, cold-applied, water-based bitumen emulsion for flexible damp-proofing and protective coating.

Vetoproof BM750 is a single-component, cold-applied, water-based, flexible bitumen emulsion designed for dampproofing and protecting concrete, masonry, and brick substrates. It forms a seamless, self-healing barrier against water and vapor, and also serves as a primer, adhesive, and curing compound for below-grade applications.

Vetoproof BM750 also functions as a curing compound when applied to fresh concrete just after the final set. In such applications, particularly for foundations and other buried concrete elements (e.g., foundation slabs and footings), it helps retain moisture for proper hydration while simultaneously providing waterproofing, thereby eliminating the need for a separate curing agent and offering potential cost savings on site.

Uses

  • Dries rapidly to form a seamless coating over cementitious substrates, masonry, and brickwork.
  • Ideal for both horizontal and vertical surfaces, including foundation walls, retaining walls, floors, and both interior and exterior masonry.
  • Can be used as a primer and adhesive for torch-applied bituminous membranes, enhancing the adhesion and durability of subsequent waterproofing layers.
  • Suitable for under-cladding applications on facades, providing an added layer of moisture protection in building envelopes.
  • External damp-proofing for concrete pipes, columns, and beams.
  • Protective coating for steel and timber surfaces exposed to moisture.

Advantages

  • Flexible and self-healing protection against water and vapor.
  • Acts as both a curing compound and a damp-proof membrane.
  • Resistant to aggressive elements such as chloride ions and sulfate attack.
  • Can be applied on green concrete and damp surfaces.
  • Non-flammable, non-toxic and odorless.
  • Easy handling and user-friendly application.
  • Excellent adhesion to concrete, masonry, and brickwork.
  • Free from asbestos and solvents (eco-friendly).
  • Fast drying enables quicker turnaround time.

Usage Instructions

All surfaces must be structurally sound, clean, and free from contaminants such as oil, grease, dirt, dust, curing compounds, form release agents, laitance, and any loose or flaking material that may affect adhesion. Thorough surface cleaning should be carried out by wire brushing, high-pressure water jetting, or other suitable mechanical means to achieve a sound substrate. For removal of oil and grease contaminants, use of degreaser is recommended to ensure clean substrate.

Steel substrates must be prepared to a minimum standard of SSPC-SP3 (Power Tool Cleaning) to remove all loose rust, mill scale, and other foreign matter. For dry surfaces, it is essential to pre-dampen the substrate with clean water prior to application. The surface should be brought to a saturated surface-dry (SSD) condition—visibly damp but free of standing water. Maintain this damp condition until the application of Vetoproof BM750 to ensure proper adhesion and film formation. Avoid applying the product on completely dry or overly wet surfaces.

Vetoproof BM750 is supplied as a single-component product ready for on-site use. To ensure uniform consistency inspect the coating for any settlement or separation. Use a slow-speed drill and paddle or any suitable manual tool, and stir the coating thoroughly until a uniform, homogeneous consistency is achieved.

Vetoproof BM750 may be applied using a stiff brush, roller, or airless spray equipment, depending on the nature of the surface and site conditions. For optimal results, brush or roller application is recommended to achieve thorough coverage, especially over uneven or textured surfaces.

Vetoproof BM750 should be applied directly onto the prepared substrate at a wet film thickness (WFT) of approximately 150 to 200 microns per coat. The number of coats required will vary based on the substrate condition, exposure requirements, and the desired final film thickness. Each coat must be allowed to dry fully before the application of subsequent layers. Under typical conditions, drying time approximates 6 hours, but this may vary depending on ambient temperature, humidity, and substrate porosity.

In cases where a high-build application is required for enhanced protection, additional coats may be applied following the same procedure. It is important to ensure that the surface of the preceding coat is dry and firm to the touch before applying the next coat to prevent blistering or poor adhesion.

Vetoproof BM750 is formulated to be compatible with damp and green concrete surfaces, allowing application without risk of de-bonding or surface defects. However, it is essential to ensure that the substrate is free from standing water before application.

Vetoproof BM750 dries by water evaporation, forming a black, flexible film. At 25°C, surface drying occurs within 65 minutes, with a recommended overcoating time of approximately 6 hours. Complete curing occurs within 24–48 hours, depending on film thickness, substrate porosity, and ambient conditions. Protect the coating from water and mechanical damage during curing.

Tools and equipment should be cleaned with hot, soapy water immediately after use. Hardened material can be removed using Vetonit Solvent XX400 or by mechanical means.
